Product review: Winamp 3

I've been avoiding the upgrade from Winamp 2.91 to Winamp 3. I have come to trust the 2-series as a very stable, albeit slightly bloated, application. I consider MP3 players as important to the modern computing experience as text editors, spreadsheets and compilers. Being able to play my silly collection of tunes and samples while I bang away at LiveJournal entries or code assignments is vital to my sanity. ( I swear this is a normal, approachable essay. No geek knowledge required. )

I'd like to talk about theology, part one

I'd like to begin an exegesis about God. I hope my flagrant agnosticism won't get in the way.

Some of you are heathens and would rather eschew this topic. Any fear of the topic of God is fear of the self.

Some of you are on major excursions toward religions. I admire that, I'm frightened for y'all, and more.

Even if you are certain of your faith or lack thereof, you should revisit your beliefs every few years. Each time I do this, I come away with a fresher face on the world and more confidence in my existence.

Why now? Because I just saw Glengarry Glen Ross and I felt something well up in me. Every salesman wants to think he's Ricky Roma or that he's a few Zen lessons away from Roma. I suspect normal people watch that movie and cringe (or just don't get it). I watch it, after years in sales and a similar number of years studying comparative religions, and I see salesmen having their moments of angst. I love that movie.

It dawns on me that all you are thinking "wait, you want to talk shop about God because you saw a Baldwin say 'First prize is the car. Second prize? A set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired.' Are you fuqyng insane?" Well, yeah.

I want to get back to philosophical thought. However, I've been exercising my brain to sell better. That has begun to pay off. Now I'd like to resume using spare brain cycles for deeper thinking.

Am I on the wrong track?
