pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (Default)
37th Street near the corner of Eighth Avenue in Manhattan. It's Sunday night and [livejournal.com profile] fuzzplugjones and I are heading back to my car after hanging out with a friend of his from high school and her boyfriend. We turn the corner from Eighth Ave and come across a guy and girl sitting on a piece of cardboard on the sidewalk. They are staring at a storefront on the same side of the street in which hangs what looks like a house painter's drop cloth. Back-projected onto the drop cloth is a cartoon I'd only seen once before on an episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse. There are these Latin American men singing "She Wore a Little Jacket of Blue". The print was in black & white but for some reason I call the version I'd seen being in color.

Standing over the guy and girl is a gentleman in maybe his late thirties or forties. I ask him where he found the film and he explained that he is a film archivist and this is part of his collection. He is trying to get more weird film shown around town. I would've thought New York City would have no such problem getting art to flourish. He also explains he will be spinning... err, showing flick at the Coolidge Corner later this summer. Drooooool.

Suddenly a fire truck starts barreling down 37th. I assume we're being told to get out of the street.

"Did you call for a fire?" the driver asks. Dennis explains that no, he has no clue but maybe around the corner.

I am very glad I have these adventures. Now I also have witnesses.

Fuzzplug goes home tomorrow. Everyone wish him a safe journey, eh?
