House cleaning has been completed
Jul. 18th, 2006 11:11 pmI've spent several evenings and at least two Sundays cleaning my cousin's house for her impending return visit. I wound up doing a lot more than I had expected, putting in around thirty hours of effort. The last three days have been the most involved, but it's all done now.
Sunday I cleaned my office, did the final sorting on the kitchen cruft and dragged a carload of my stuff up to my storage locker. Rachel helped by cleaning the bath tub and keeping me hydrated thus sane. She's good for me.
Monday night I took out a few more bags of trash, mopped the kitchen floor, cleared the front hall, even vacuumed the stairs and the cobweb snare in the stairwell. Tonight I cleared off the crap on the couch, sorted my cousin's office, sorted all mail into useful piles and tossed the remainders. I no longer have entries on my list of cleaning to do (although I need to wash some bed sheets and towels).
I took a victory lap around the house, pointing at things and saying "you're clean, you're tidy, you I don't care about, and... oh yeah, I gotta get that in the mail." I cleaned in a house that was 87F. I drank a lot of water. I feel like I accomplished something important.
Now it's time to sleep. I will snore with pride. I will revel in the proof of my labor. I will get to geek without guilt tomorrow night.
I will also have to finish fighting with Northland Telephone, the keeper of my decade-old personal email account. I cleaned everything out of the inbox and got the saved outbox down to 500k. They still haven't turned the account back on. I talked to two twinks in their tech support today and learned that I have a Webmail account, it's full and I have no clue how to get to it.
Actually, I just winged it and figured it out. It turns out all of my email has been copied to a shadow account I had never seen before. If I cannot turn this thing off, I'm just asking for my half-year of shell account money back and canceling them.
