[livejournal.com profile] tkitch asked me to a challenge of a meme he got from someone he knows. Since that person's challenge is a locked entry and I actually have to this, I shall step up:

"List 5 reasons why you are a geek. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a geek you are! Then pick the 5 biggest geeks you know and have them do the same."

  1. The anthologist of case modders told me I had too many computers in my apartment. (Yes, that would be Kitch and you can read his research paper.
  2. Because I can tell you in great and annoying detail the history of all the computers I have owned. From memory.
  3. Because I look forward to the MIT Flea the way other people look forward to playoff games.
  4. Because I can tell you exactly which tricks were employed to create sound samples and also tell you where most rap samples came from.
  5. Because I see geeking as the advancement of the knowledge and wisdom of civilization through practical experience of its phenomena and will work my ass off not only to contribute to that pool of wisdom but be able to explain its mysteries and infect its whimsy. All of the things I have studied, from desktop publishing to radio production to music history to the history of technology to system administration to computer hardware to philosophy to mathematics to psychology, have made me just social enough to hang out with almost anyone but just self-assured enough not to care when people react poorly to me.

Now I pick my victims!

-yeah I'm outting y'all

P.S.: It figures the one thing I misspell is the thing I have a degree in. Oh, I moved the time to the future so that this would show up on tomorrow's stacks.

I don't tend to post memes on my journal, but I'm glad to answer here.

1. I think it is polite to interrupt people to correct them
2. I flirt with people by writing software for them
3. Richard Stallman basically told me that I know the GPL better than he does.
4. I will often make a recipe several times, with slight changes, to figure out exactly what each ingredient and technique does. I often try to figure out ways to eliminate time-consuming parts of recipes.
5. I've been tied up in bed with cat-5.

5. I've been tied up in bed with cat-5.

Made the mistake of trying this with cat-3 back in college. I do *not* recommend it. I'd think that cat-2 would be best in terms of comfort, but a bitch to actually tie.

Cat 5 worked just fine, since it was just to attach my wrists to the eyebolts.
