pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (shelley)

Last night I had a fever, some coughing and a headache over my right eye. I got up this morning after a net of 12 hours asleep. I showered, shaved, did all the boring morning things. I figured "I feel better than i did yesterday. Let's go to work." Then I put on my clothes and they felt weird against my skin. I ignored it. Then I could smell gasoline on my gloves from pumping gas yesterday. I ignored it. Then I drove to work. No problems.

Then I got to my desk and the light from outside was blinding. I debated getting my sunglasses from the car. Then I walked downstairs to training. I had to stop midway because my clothes rubbing against my skin was driving me nuts. It felt like a hangover without the prior fun.

I got through the session but mostly by twitching. I headed back upstairs, where people were still gathered by the window in my cube pod to watch the men remove the giant evergreen that had fallen onto the next building during the wind storm this week. I could talk but I could no longer deal with any stimuli (especially skin, sight and smell). So I emailed my boss and a let some others know.

I'm back in bed. I am tired of being in this bed. I may sleep on the couch for a while. Oh wait, that's kinda scratchy. Now I know how these wuss kids feel -- sensory overload on a constant basis is overwhelming and you want to whine. I'm so used to blocking out whatever I want (and boy, can I) that it's just too much to lose that for a virus. Back to sleep for me.

Wishing you silkiness or temporary oblivion until the extreme sensitivity mellows!

Ack!

Get the fuck better!

I hope this doesn't count against you at work - I was always one of those people who was extremely paranoid at taking even one legitimate sick day in the first six months of a new job.

Either way, please let us know how you're doing.

Hope you feel better, you have my favorite too-sick-to-get-out-of-bed book, one of the fun things about it is tat it seques pretty well with fever-dreams. Drop me a line if you don't feel up to tomorrow.
