Strange weekend, quiet Monday
Oct. 19th, 2004 11:00 amThere is a lot to cover. Lemme hit you with the highlights:
- I got my first traffic ticket in nine years. Ever heard of "unsafe lane change"? It's $100 in Mass. You know that "Reverse [the] Cur[sv]e sign I talked about? I got pulled over around there. I am chagrined.
- I wound up going home about an hour after I got to work yesterday because I was puking. It had started before I left for work, but I couldn't remember my new boss's number so I went to work anyway. Then I got home, finished the hurl and slept for four hours. Moral of the story: omelets don't reheat well.
- On Saturday I went up to the computer fair in Salem NH (held at a race track, of all places). I found some chips. I also found something I really should've put back the hell down: a VA Linux 2200 server box. This was total geek candy and a steal at $165 -- dual Pentium III chips at 733 MHz each, 256 MB of ECC RAM, CD-ROM and floppy drive, even a 4.3 GB SCSi drive all in a 2U-size rack slab. Were this a working machine, it would've been better. It only takes the expensive ECC (error-correcting, business class) memory and the slab that's in there will post but won't boot Knoppix.
- My vacation has been approved! I am off from Thursday until Tuesday (21st through 26th). Anyone want me to bother them?
