Brave new router, cleaner new world
Aug. 8th, 2004 02:47 amI've been without Maggie in the apartment for a little more than one day. It got quiet fast.
I ran a bunch of errands (depositing rebate checks, finding 2000-grit sandpaper, getting the car reinspected, dropping stuff into the mail) and then went to
hakamadare and
chaiya's new place. Haka and I went on another errand run for him to get a phone solution and me to get a new wireless router. I gave Maggie my old one because I knew she'd be in pain without net access.
I then bothered
tkitch and a friend of his. They came to my place and we played Risk 2210, a game perfectly suited to a new generation of permanent bachelors. His friend, though fond of electronic games, didn't dig this protracted board game. I was only interested for a while. Then he took us to breakfast.
I had to clean the dining table for this game. This led me to start a new rash of cleaning this afternoon. I've cleaned the bathroom (I didn't mop the floor and I couldn't get the rubber mat to separate from the bathtub all the way around) and got the top of the toilet cleared. I filed stuff, vacuumed the old rug (and its underside) as well as the newer used Oriental rug (same with its flipside). I rolled up the old rug and propped it against the wall in the office. I even gathered the returnable soda and booze bottles (there are $2 in glass and probably another $2 in plastic) and brought the recycling to the basement.
I am about one-third of the way through my proposed cleanup. Once I clean the office (enough to get the rug onto the floor) and the bedroom (which is, let's face it, ringed by a Perimeter of Random Objects), I will have the kind of apartment people will feel good about as they lounge in it.
I'm ready to sleep. I want to show off this place once it is in order. It'll be worth the effort.
