pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (bright-blessings)
I had some elaborate stuff I was going to post. I forgot to put it up before I left the office. Blah blah.

I have to hop in the shower, pack a bag, toss my laundry hamper in the trunk, drop off a library book in the Back Bay, go to practice for Chicken Heart. Only after these can I drive to Utica from Somerville. Christmas Eve will be at home, with seafood and loved ones.

I don't have much time this afternoon but I wanted to wish everyone happy Poingtougaretz. This is the sensation one gets as the holidays turn from a ball of anxiety to the actual moment of quiet that they ought have been in the first place.

Sometimes PTGZ (or "poing-ghee" as children call it, or "pointouguaresse" in French) lasts only a few minutes and happens when you find the only open restaurant at 4 p.m. on Christmas Day or you'll driving along in your home town and wind up giving a ride to someone you haven't seen since grade school. Maybe it's the lull between fighting with your parents and fighting traffic again. Maybe you have to get very liquored up.

However it happens, it's good. It's the moment when the end of the year really is less than a week away, when it all gels that you can start something, anything anew. Just dig it when it happens, be in that moment as long as you can.

Yes, there are bonus points if you get to third base while it happens, but don't get pushy. It's the season for giving, so there'd better be some Mutual Broadcasting if you know what I mean. Otherwise just make out or pass the hootch.
