Hey, I tried.
Jun. 15th, 2004 02:54 amI tired to watch a single episode of "Hannity & Colmes" just to see. I couldn't finish it. I couldn't even come close. Sean Hannity picks a topic, brings onto the show an assistant or friend of the person he wants to attack, and then berates the assistant for something the target did, and won't let the other person finish speaking.
Even when he has a valid point, Hannity proceeds to pound it into the ground. I suppose it's not meant for me anyway, so I shouldn't be shocked that his show annoys me. It's meant to go fast enough that you can't think about it -- you just react. It's like Fear Factor without the... I almost said "critters" but I guess it's class.
Hannity laid into one of Clinton's old friends about his new movie in defense of Clinton's sex life. At the end, he let that guy off the hook as a friend of his own. Then he brought on the son of the chair of the NAACP to bash him for his father's recent assertion that the Republicans are like the terrorists. He didn't let him off the hook at all. It sounded a lot like a white guy yelling at a black guy by talking around racism. As soon as you have the chance to think about it, it's over.
Hannity can see the issues but decides to chase the surface conflicts because they're easier. It's simple work. Colmes exists to segue Hannity on occasion.
I tried to watch, but I kept having to click away. I couldn't bear the suffering of each panelist as he tried to defend himself but got talked over.
Then again, it's only mass hypnosis. It's not real commentary.
I'm creeped out by a lot of stuff the W administration has been doing. However, it's starting to look less and less like Republicans fooling people and more like rich people getting poor people to do their bidding in an attack on other poor people. Then again, I did watch the John Hurt version of 1984 right before that.
Sanctioning torture is wrong. That's it. One guy beating up another guy is equal schmuck time, but one guy imprisoning another guy and beating him up is unequal. Am I naive to think that? We asked other nations to stop torturing captives. Why are we suddenly exempt? Why would that even be a good idea? Why want torture? More than that, why isn't encouraging torture, thus betraying treaties, treason?
-a thought, Ps/d
