pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (Default)
I'd tell you about work today, but what's the point? It was lonely after 6:30. Lots of hosers. Then Munkee and I went to dinner and discussed important stuff. She's right: it's about time I started shoveling money into a 401(k) again. It's also about time I completed more of the projects I've started.

One such project is turning my cousin's old laptop into a Linux box. This should be a no-brainer, right? Nope. Instead, I find myself digging through contradictory and incomplete documentation for the simple question: which floppy disk images do I need to download and copy to floppies so that I can start a network install? I'm tempted to call Debian "Bureaucralinux".

My problem with knowing a multitude of research methods is that I'm tempted to use the ones that most work like my mind does rather than the ones with the answers. I'm chatty. I like to chat to get answers -- hypothesis through consensus. However, this means using IRC to get answers, which is like asking street pervs for confidential advice.

I think I'll try the vanilla set tomorrow and see what goes down. Looking for the perfect answer is keeping me from getting any answers.

Meanwhile, I was trying to watch Orange County on VoD. I could only take 15-minute chunks at a time because comedies of error kinda make me antsy. The half-hour I've seen so far is funny. When I tried to resume the second time, VoD died on me. It's still in the testing stage, so that happens a lot.
