Can't think can't think can't think... this one paragraph is taking me forever to type...

Ooh, a New York Times article about parking space savers in Southie! I remember when Mayor Mumbles announced that they'd take away people's space holders one year, so people put their old washing machines and water heaters as holders in hopes they wouldn't need to pay for special hauling.

Wait, no, that's not work. I need to focus... gah, but people were yelling at each other so constructively a few days ago on a Fark thread about 9/11 trooferz. That's still not work, entertaining as it may be.

I guess I'll have to take the free liquid crack so I can hunker down. Anyone else having that kind of day?

Please? I'm withering up here in the half-empty office. Last night I built a Windows XP box wicked fast and today I can't write a simple response.

Yup, I was having that kind of day. Or that kind of a week. Except in my case it was caused by EVERYTHING GOING WRONG.

I declared that this winter session was going to be my "test run", my psuedo-farmer time. I'm working every day. This is good. It allows me to make sure that this is what I absolutely, positively, definitely want to do with my life, during the absolute worst time of year to be in this line of work.

The universe, in it's infinite wisdom and karma, laughed and proceeded to throw trials and tribulations at me, yelling "Dance, my puppet! DANCE!"

I was very, very sick and had a fever. Foggy in the head. Animals still need to be fed and watered, and I had help. Not a big deal. Then M1 left for Christmas. Not a big deal, there's another girl filling in. M2 is naive, young, and occasionally leaves me staring at her wondering "If I cut her head open, would there be a brain in there, or just a small salt lick?" Then came the "storm" which wasn't really bad enough to be called a storm, except that the Valley had a Virginia response to it. "OH NO IT'S OVER TWO INCHES NOTHING CAN BE DONE SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN DON'T BOTHER SANDING ANYTHING!!!" But again, animals have to be taken care of, so I prevailed over the roads, parked back by the other barn, and walked the last few tenths of a mile because they didn't plow our driveway all day long. We were in survival mode by that point, just trying to keep everyone warm, fed, with access to clean water, and shoveled out enough that they had a place to use the bathroom. Still not a big deal. M1 comes back soon, and she and I can get everything back in shape in a day or two. I'm not even going to bother asking M2 to do anything out of the ordinary -- her head might explode and then I'd have more to pick up. Well, that WAS the plan... Until M1 didn't show up for work when she was supposed to, and I finally found out that her flight back here had been canceled. M2 had a family emergency and went home. Our "back-up person" who's supposed to be around to fill in when we need her never gave me her phone number and hasn't checked her e-mail in days. Two other AnSci people were asked off the books; one I never heard from, the other is in PA.

So I've been working by myself for the last 2 days. On the upside, the fever's staying gone, I get paid for the extra hours I've worked, and M1 is supposed to be back this afternoon. Oh, and I checked in with my supervisor via phone this morning and he told me I should do something I did last night. That's always nice.

Wow that got long.

Yay, though! You're rocking mightily. I am proud of how much you have matured into responsibility over the years I've known you.
