Is my eyeglass prescriptiion wrong?
Jul. 19th, 2010 11:45 amI picked up my new glasses on Thursday, but I haven't been at work (where I get my worst vision problems) until now. Everything looks surprisingly fuddup.
Is the world supposed to look as if I'm sitting in a fish bowl? Every long vertical line looks like it's trying to merge -- too many trapezoids. Text looks good on the screen, but I have to refocus just to look at the keyboard.
It feels weird. I think the woman behind the lens machine was breaking my babalones. She went so fast that i couldn't give her good answers, and slowing her down was a failure.
I'll give this a couple more hours, then I'm calling the eye doctor to schedule another sitting. This time I don't want to have the drops in when I get this done. The world looks broken -- and it twists when I tilt my head.

Date: 2010-07-20 01:37 pm (UTC)I had this problem a number of years ago when I worked for A Telephone & Tomfoolery company. I got new glasses with polycarbonate (high-index plastic) lenses, which the doc swore up and down was the latest and greatest and worth the extra $50 or so. After a week or two of my vision was still off at the edges all around. I went back, asked for regular plastic and my vision was instantly better. "And I won't charge you extra for the new lenses," said the optometrist, so I never went back.
More recently I got new glasses from Costco. I again tried high-index with the same effects. So, when I went back in I said, "I want regular index plastic." They hemmed and hawed a little because it meant grinding the lenses down more than they were comfortable with but gave in. I put on my new glasses and poof! all better.
I am used to putting on glasses and my vision immediately clearing up. My uncle crafted several pairs of glasses for me when I was a teen and he told me a few tales; I will not settle for blurred or fuzzy peripherals.
