I finished playing Boiled in Lead's cover of the disco charmer "Rasputin". Then the randomizer picked "Two More Sips", a bit by Patton Oswalt about getting his drink refilled and hinting at a drunken upskirt photo moment. I get the sense that some of you may either not like Mr Oswalt or the situation described, but I needed to mention it so that the MP3 player's next track choice would be meaningful.

Peter Gabriel - "I Don't Remember" came up next. Yes, I suspect my iPod is listening.

I've named the new one Seeburg, based on the old brand of juke boxes. It's so much bigger than my last one: 160 GB unformatted (150 GB of actual space) versus 30 GB (27 GB actual space). It turned out I was swapping out about a quarter of the music on my iTunes setup to keep the old one from being full. Now I've started ripping things again.

I wonder what other pieces of pseudo-intelligence will arise as I fill up its tank.

Rasputin as in "Ra-Ra Rasputin, lover of the russian queen!" That one?
Boiled in Lead does a cover?

Yes, and yes.

In fact I didn't know it was a cover for a couple years. Then a friend from Odessa insisted that there was a band called Boney M that did it first.

I'm pretty sure the version I know is the Boney M one.

I have both. The BiL version is on 1994's Antler Dance (http://www.amazon.com/Antler-Dance-Boiled-Lead/dp/B000001BCM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1260975465&sr=1-7).

I've seen BiL live twice. The second time was fabulous, but the first time was one of those moments from the ursprung that haunt you for years. They played in a recital hall designed for the pipe organ built into its walls (SUNY Binghamton had money back in the 1960s and 70s). They filled the room with an infectious beat and tune -- they possessed us to dance. There is no other way to explain it.

At the end of the night we were in a frenzy of the Bunny Hop. No, really -- it's as if Led Zeppelin were playing the Bunny Hop and we were hopping up and down the stairs. Yes.
