Directly from the planet of Brooklyn
Jan. 16th, 2005 11:26 amI'm in a warehouse near the Gowanus Canal (the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, just south of the toll booths for the Battery Tunnel). This is the loft of the great Jason Isaac, a.k.a. The Reaper. He was my apprentice sophomore year of college. He was eventually General Manager of the same radio station, WHRW. He is now an engineer for Air America Radio as well as WNYC. He is a god among men.
The loft has this amazing view of Manhattan. The angle is strange because you're looking at the city almost as if Manhattan were sailing toward you. All the buildings are bunched up and then the Empire State sits on its own. It gives the room an amazing light.
There is a massive set of windows which take up eighty percent of the outside wall of the loft. When I woke up, I saw the grey outside the huge window and nothing else. I thought, "oh snap! There's another massive fog like we had up in Boston on Thursday". Then I stood up and the fog was only in my brain. I was looking at a perfectly overcast day, not a hint of blue or even cloud sculpting to ruin the test card quality of the grey. New York was still there.
I'm typing to you from Jay's roomie's PowerBook G4. It's one of the widescreen ones. It's too big for my head. I'd like to think I'd buy one of these and put the letterboxed screen to good use. However, I suspect the... oh. That's better. Rescale the window and there's suddenly a normal scale to everything and room for a separate screen to check my email.
Ah, done. Adam Brodsky had an update. He's playing Passim on the 19th. I doubt I can get out of work on time, even though I have the next two days off after that. Tell him I say howdy, eh?
Boy, this is a nice computer. However, I like the springier keyfeel of the iBook a lot more. In fact, I'd take the iBook's shell with the fast PowerBook's guts and turn it into a dual-boot box! Waaaay too much work.
