pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (shelley)
I use Opera as my web browser. I've babbled before about the kind of ads that I usually see in the adware version of Opera. For a couple months, they must've been out of sponsors because all they had were links to the Opera page and some rotten online comics.

Now the ads are back. I finally saw one that was in English a minute ago, but it was for British Telecom's DSL service. Most of the ads are irrelevant to me:
  1. "Hey! You just missed a call!" No I didn't. I have cable modem.
  2. "Jetzt fur nur 49,- EUR! Nur so lange der Vorrat reicht! + 3 Monate keine grundgebuhr! + bis zu 200 SMS Pro Monat FOR FREE! Und mit Super rucksack!" But who am I gonna call in Germany any time soon?
  3. Something about shopping for Christmas at eBay Austria.
This leaves me wondering what settings I would need to select to get the kind of ads I can parse, let alone the kind that would get me to click on them:
  • Fresh beef delivered to your stomach right away!
  • Have you wanted all the old episodes of the Burns & Allen radio show but didn't think anybody had them?
  • Geek objects! Now! None of this waitin' an stuff!
Enough staring at the ad banner, eh? I've been sick. I went to a lot of trouble to get Friday and Saturday off so that I could have a four-day weekend. Then I proceeded to get a fever, hallucinate, and get screaming headaches.

I'm mostly functional now. Just in time for the vacation to end. Hey, at least I didn't need to call in.

-ring ring, Ps/d
