pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (shelley)

It's Friday evening, but I'm not at work. I should be at work tomorrow -- even though I'm still recovering, I'm tired of sleeping. I wanna bother my co-workers and fight with... err, help callers.

[livejournal.com profile] chaggalagirl and I got to Utica at 9 pm. We headed directly to my uncle's new house (it's only a mile from the city limits, but the view of the stars is amazing). Food! Boy was there a lot of food -- from the breaded, baked squid to the calzone, desserts, the works.

Mom had been sick and decided to stay at home. When I got in, she reeled off the itany of symptoms she had and how likely we were to get them. Since my mother is a professional hypochondriac, I dismissed her talk.

We got up the next morning, packed, and then found out the snow was getting worse and even Maggie's parents suggested we shouldn't drive to Rochester. So we stayed put.

My parents now have digital cable and cable modem. However, they have a different cable company than the one I work for, so I had a chance to see rival products in action. First, their digital cable box is the size of a normal cable box, instead of the mutant VCR thing our company hands out. Also, the hardware is significantly faster than my company's -- you change a channel and you see the new channel immediately! Gah, that is one feature that has ruined the word-of-mouth about our product. Next, their channel guide puts the channel's logo in the left corner instead of an advertisement, which I think is classy. They also let you keep watching your show in a box on the top of the screen while you scan the channel guide.

Oh, and they get 12 HBOs instead of 6 -- West Coast and East, and the Latino one.

The guy that installed cable modem for them claimed the ISA network card I'd installed was "too old" for their service and installed a no-name (and I looked all over this thing... no brand name at all) PCI card. I notice he couldn't get his card to work after two installs and wound up using mine. I took the other one out.

It was very good to see my father. He's like his old self -- jumping around the room, talking about all sorts of crazy stuff. Even mom is in a better mood. They were snuggling on the couch, which they ddin't do a lot in the Nineties.

So we left for home on Thursday. About halfway into the trip, I started feeling sick. I'd run to the bathroom, nothing would happen, and then I'd need to sit for a good while. Once I got up from the car after pulling into the driveway, I felt intensely nauseous. "Hi, I'm sick," I said to Robin as I ran in the door. I then ran to the bathroom.

Let's see how clean I can keep this. I couldn't even keep water down for several hours. I felt very weak. I would sleep for half an hour, then run to the bathroom. Party central.

I do not want anyone to get this nasty virus. On one hand, it's a 24-hour thing (just like mom said). On the other, it's very painful and it leaves you wondering how many years f sleep you'll need to feel human.

-off to pass out again, Dante
