Posting from the future weekend
Jun. 15th, 2007 07:17 amIt's Friday morning in Sydney. I've now been on the ground here 24 hours. I'd already written a good few pages on the plane and I'll be posting them once I get a Telstra account for wifi. I've also picked up a pre-paid SIM card but I haven't activated it yet.
These people had their driest May on record but yesterday (your today) involved some heavy rains. They aren't used to rain like we get it: the streets were verging on flooding. The Hunter Valley is still six and a half feet of water above flood stages, which means a trip to northern wine country is impassible.
I'm thinking about renting a car sooner instead of later. If I can't go north because the roads in Maitland are washed out, then I'll drive south to Canberra. Sydney is cute but it's also a bit bummed about the oppresive rain. I want to see something other than delusional British tourists and the bus to Glebe.
It's amazingly simple to get around here. However I think I may still be too tired to write about that yet. More soon! I'm having a great time but I'm still figuring out... so much, darlings.
Oh, question for the crew: I bought some kangaroo meat at the supermarket. Yes, for real! I'm warned it's a gamey meat, easy to ruin by overcooking and strong in its flavor. There is no oven at this hostel but there are burners, skillets and pots. I was thinking of heating garlic and rosemary in olive oil then slow searing chunks, then steaming asparagus and small squash gourds in ginger and cardamum. Anyone have experience cooking kangaroo meat to offer advice?
