Defense de fumer et repondez au telephone

Two creepy events in the past 24 hours:

1. I was driving home last night when I heard "tonight's forecast: smog." Yow, I thought. Then Maggie had to explain to me how little I had been following the news this weekend. There have been major forest fires about 400 miles north of Quebec City and the smoke was enough to block some sun;
2. It turns out the Swiss air traffic control caused that crash last week. The Russian plane's black box revealed that its auto-detection went off and warned the pilot to ascend. The Swiss traffic control told the Russian pilot to descend, which put his plane into the path. The German traffic command tried to call the Swiss, but they were not answering the phone.

Damn. That's a lot of smoke.

(and you have to wonder why the swiss weren't answering the phone. this is why I would never go into air traffic control.)
