Oh hey, how about a post?
Apr. 26th, 2005 11:22 pmLots of stuff has been happening. Almost all of it has been good. Where to start?
That's enough for now. Life is fascinating.

P.S.: Thank you to
graciana for the editing and layout advice on this entry.
- My mom came to visit last week. She got to meet a bunch of you, such as my buddy Jon and
quem98 on Sunday,
kestrell for dinner on Tuesday,
tkitch at Diesel and even
hakamadare at his fine house later that same evening. I think she liked meeting my friends. She didn't even make snarky comments when they left. That's good. (Yeah, she's probably reading this but it's still true.) - The same Tuesday, my landlady informed me my building was going condo. She hasn't had the appraisers through yet. In fact, her time table seems lethargic. There will be a discount for anyone sticking around. I am in a position to take her up on the offer, I think. After all, I like the apartment and I know all about its structural integrity (very good). I know the electrical wiring is recent and well-spread, the cable wiring is brand new, the floors hardwood and level, and the new HVAC seems to work.
- I am now in the possession of a Digital Personal Workstation 433a. This is an Alpha-based desktop (64-bit processor from around 1998). It still has a giant Integraph video card suited to a CAD workstation from that era. It also has two 2GB drives with NT 4.0 installed. Yes, that was the last Microsoft OS to work on a non-x86 chip. It's like finding the last stapled issue of Playboy (Madonna was on the cover, 1985).
- The office is mostly clean now. I went with
lightfixer to Costco and we each got the baker's racks they had for $76. You get six metal shelves four feet long by 18" deep and enough poles to put the shelves a little over six feet off the ground. Oh yes, one level is nothing but computer towers. Oh yes, I still have to sort stuff. However, I have a place to get projects done. This is a big deal for me. - I really like my job. Now I'm on the phones. I'm still gaining confidence but I have a grasp of what to do and how to handle it efficiently. I also have three computers at my desk at work, the latest edition being a P3 800 MHz with 2 stick of 256MB Rambus RAM (oh man, scary) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3 on a SCSI drive. Oh yeah, life is good. I get to geek for a living.
- Which means I really need more non-computeristic hobbies. It's hard to do, man. Like, I need distractions aside from shopping and aggressive bill-paying.
- About the bills: almost done. I'm excited. I will have a net debt below $1000 as of Monday. The car payment is on schedule to finish and everything else is good to close.
- Oh, but I had a car accident. Just a fender bender. However, it was my first... well, ever. Also, fenders don't bend anymore -- they're made of fiberglass so they crack. So do turn signal light covers. Plastic windshield wiper jugs, however, get puncture holes and don't hold any wiper fluid. Good thing it's April. Good thing the insurance paperwork is mostly complete.
That's enough for now. Life is fascinating.
