Okay, some of you may be missing the days when I geeked about esoteric and dumpster-dive computer hardware if only because these posts about cleaning my apartment are so... mundane. You have to understand that I'm excited about this because it's a metaphor for my re-emergence into the world this year. I am removing the chrysalis and building a fresh home from the existing home. I am reclaiming my surroundings thereby galvanizing myself to my next set of endeavors. Just think of Owlie pushing the vacuum cleaner.

However, i failed to complete my assigned task today. I got a bunch of other stuff done -- two loads of laundry, an email to a friend detailing what she needs to know before shopping for a turntable cartridge, lighting tweaks to the bedroom. (By the way, anyone with audio questions can ask me. It's one of my many specialties.) I filled some prescriptions and paid a little more down on my imminent dining table delivery. I enjoyed some leisurely driving on my way to work (what a beautiful day). I learned it's easy to build a VMWare image so I'm going to build a few. I found out the 20 GB notebook hard drive I'd picked up at the Flea last year won't even spin up. However, I've only shuffled a few objects off the table. There goes my hope of hanging out in Cambridge tomorrow.

I'm going to bed and savoring my time of sleep. Tomorrow I am at deadline with the dining table -- it gets dismantled and shoved in the basement locker before bedtime. This isn't failure; I just had intervening priorities.

Next week I'll start organizing the office. That will be a drag. When that's done, I'll have something impressive. For now, I must accept that cleaning is not the same as organizing, that I need a method after I shave the madness off, that rebirth is painful but necessary.
