He wouldn't claim executive privilege. He wouldn't plead the Fifth. (Hell, he'll never even drink a fifth.) However, he was convinced that a bald-faced "I'll just evade senators in front of them" would work. This led to blow-ups from senators.

I mean, the guy has balls. He doesn't know enough about the law to pull a fast one on senators nor even do his research. Thus, he was an obvious choice for Attorney General.

My dad went to law school with Joe Biden, who chewed up Ashcroft this week. I've always had a soft spot for Delaware's senior senator. He's articulate and all the other stuff you expect from a trick... err, congressperson. When he lost his shit on Ashcroft, I wanted to jump into his body at that moment. He had the chance to explain something to that hoser and he did it. All of my viscerae were with Biden at that moment. I could feel him unload a few years of anger on the guy.

"That's why we have these treaties. So when Americans are captured, they are not tortured. That's the reason, in case anybody forgets it." His tight grimace, bared teeth and pained speech made it clear what he would've loved to do with this guy if he saw him on the street.

Sometimes we get to see the humans in government. It makes it cool to live here. Ashcroft may wish to hire... I dunno, a lawyer. A lot of this real news got buried in the bouts of "Reagan: Will he rise from the Dead? Live coverage all this week!" but hey...
