Please go to the Crimson Room. don't mind the broken English. Best short puzzle I've played with in a while.

I'm going to make a more solid effort to complete some projects. I think the dual-CPU Gentoo box should be first. I want to see how macked out I can make a machine.

I also need to return the Hercules Muse Pocket I bought Sunday. I was looking for an external support to my Mac laptop for sound recording. This device claimed to have support for Macs but "only in stereo" (it had plugs for 5.1). It turns out there aren't any Mac drivers of any sort for the cool-looking thing. Thus it could plug into the laptop's USB port, it could then control the volume on the laptop (cool), take input from an 1/8" stereo jack (roxors) and send output to an 1/8" stereo jack (again not too shabby). However, OS X.3 had no way to control the recording levels from the input jack (teh suxors). Thus, I could record from an record but I couldn't control the blasting quality of the volume. Lots of nasty clipping ensued. It's probably a great device for Windows, but it's a device I need in Linux or Mac.

I looked up Griffin Technology's iMic and PowerWave and concluded the main difference is the RCA jacks on the PowerWave. The iMic is smaller but has more glowing reviews. It's also only $35 and in stock at the CompUSA in Danvers (or $27 but not necessarily in stock at MicroCenter). Sounds like I'll be copying vinyl soon!

I wanted to say some other stuff, but that was last night when I was grumpy. I'm not so grumpy now and I had a fine day of selling today. Still, I'd like to ask [livejournal.com profile] hakamadare why he doesn't return my calls especially when I have this lovely check for him.

Oh wait, I just had to ask: have you seen this Guiness commercial for Saint Patrick's Day? Unlike the neat cut-out "brilllllliant!" ones, this features live humans in a packie. They're running around, sweeping fuckloads of Guiness and Harp into shopping carts. (Fools! Guiness and Smithwick's is a proper balck & tan! Why can't we have that marvelous ale in America?) Then they have an an archbishop sitting on a throne and a young man sitting on his lap. You're supposed to think "Santa Claus for the Irish." The states them for the ads is "Why can't Saint Patrick's Day be more like Christmas?" I can't help think: are all Irish Cathlics so abused to sexual abuse by priests? I never had the Special Cassock Session when I was an altar boy; does this explain why I stare at this ad bewildered? Anyone else?

it's because i've been lame recently. :( i'm sorry, dante.

fwiw, i've had grounding problems with iMics before - there's nothing like a nice background 60Hz hum in your recording, eh? if you want to get something that you foresee using a lot, consider something like this (though it can be found considerably cheaper than the MSRP)

take care, eh?
