Other versions of hell
Jun. 22nd, 2008 02:51 amWe're all upset about the FISA bill. It sucks. We've lost a lot of our civil rights in recent years and the only one we got back was habeas corpus (with the 48-hour delay still in effect).
Then again, we aren't in Zimbabwe, where leaders say:
Mugabe himself has the best misunderstanding:
If only Zimbabwe had oil: Mugabe would have long since been a memory. Instead he is proof that remembering the Holocaust isn't preventing reruns.
I listened to an interview with a woman that had the longest sit-down with Mugabe in recent years. He is a Western-educated man that hated his educators for being his colonizers. His response: there must be no trace left of them in the country he runs. He will not accept anyone else running his country and wants to die in office. The most noble gift he could receive is one he lets his soldiers hand out every day.
We can get bad laws overturned. It is our duty to reclaim our Federal government as citizens away from corporations. Otherwise we do no honor to the people being murdered because they voted against their own mutilation. We dishonor our history if we give up.
Then again, we aren't in Zimbabwe, where leaders say:
“This is not going to be an election,” said one senior ZANU-PF official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the plans are secret. “The election happened in March. This is going to be a war. We are going all out to win this, using all state resources at our disposal.”
Mugabe himself has the best misunderstanding:
“We are not going to give up our country for a mere X on a ballot,” he said in a speech last week. “How can a ballpoint pen fight with a gun?”
