pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (Default)
I haven't posted in a while. Life has been busy.

The play went well. Lots of people enjoyed it and I enjoyed the socialization.

I mentioned that I'm flying to Arizona next week to visit an old friend. She's in grad school out in Tucson. Then I'm going to take a sleeper train to Los Angeles, rent a car and stare at that place for a few days.

I want to try some of the mundane things in LA:
  1. The 2nd Street Tunnel, used in all the car commercials;
  2. Phillipe's, home of the French dip sandwich;
  3. Galco's Soda Pop Stop, the supermarket dedicated to soda;
  4. The view from the hills;
  5. 7th and Figueroa, the intersection that pretends to be New York City in lots of commercials;
  6. Pico & Sepulveda, Doheney, Cahuenga, La Brea... tar pits!
  7. Canter's Deli on Fairfax (thanks to an old bit by Mort Sahl about how the place never closes);
  8. What happens when you walk around instead of driving;
  9. Tommy's or Fat Burger (yes, I'm going to LA to ruin my health);

I would like to see how much I can sustain the myth of 1940s Los Angeles while I'm inside the place. My guess is 20 minutes.
