Guess what I scored at the Flea today? An IBM 43P Model 140! Fiddy bucks!
I'll tell you non-geeks what this means and then the geeks in the crowd can click on the lj-cut. At work we need an extra machine on the floor that can run a certain operating system called AIX. It doesn't need to be modern; it just needs to run our product so that we can fix things for customers. ( Specs! )
The other news is that I got my buddy John of Twucky (not his real name, just his truck's name) to ratchet my neighbor's fence back to vertical. The slight lean it has had since the plow hit it on Boxing Day is gone. The fence is normal, both in that it's back to being a boring cyclone fence and in that it is perpendicular to the tangent of the ground. It figures the mundanes lose their sanity when something is not normalized. Man, no wonder they fear Dumpster diving. Jon wrote me a bill for legal purposes but we voided the check and I will instead teach him Solaris sysadmin stuff. Man, I owe him a debt of psychological gratitude. I still need to find my neighbor and ask whether we can consider the matter closed.
By the way, I want to thank all of you for commenting on my Saturday morning post. It felt good to know I'm getting read when I need it.
