Man walks on Storrow
Feb. 4th, 2005 10:52 amI finished rebuilding
cadenza223's computer around 1 am Thursday. This helped liberate me of one of my cases. I wanted to ditch the case with the weird power supply mount but her CPU (P3 667 MHz on 133 MHz FSB slot 1) had a Xeon-size heatsink so it wouldn't fit in there. I may reuse her old box for a mini-server but only if I find a similarly small power supply with more than this sad thing's 155 watts. Maybe I should ditch it. Yeah.
This means all of my obligations are out of the way. Well, except I'm only halfway through with the laundry. Oh, and the apartment is still a raging mess. I'm going to play with computers, maybe dub a couple albums from vinyl. I'm going to get the office in some kind of shape but only so that I can walk around it more comfortably.
Yesterday I went to my friend Jon's new place. This being in Cambridgeport, there's nothing new about the building. It's a cute apartment and all of his computer parts now have a home with breathing space. We hung out. It was good.
I was driving home on Storrow Drive around 1 am. (You know, I'm going to miss 1 am now that I'll have to be asleep by 11 pm or so.) There was a lot of slop on the road -- sleet, mostly. However, everything was navigable. As I passed the BU exit and came to the 1950s-looking "Storrow Drive" sign, I saw someone walking against traffic in the slow lane.
For those of you not familiar with Boston, Storrow Drive qualifies as the last place anyone should be walking. This is an expressway in the mode of FDR Drive. It doesn't have any elevation, so it can get flooded. It also has no breakdown lane so walking along it is a frightening prospect. Add to it that it's paralleled by Commonwealth Ave so only a total nutter would walk on Storrow instead of Comm. I was too busy to pull over and ask the loon what he was doing. Also, he didn't look scared of oncoming traffic, meaning he probably wouldn't have feared eviscerating nosy geeks.
I like Storrow Drive at night. It's like a private expressway. The lights of Boston shine most beautifully as they hang over the road.
I'm getting hungry. Y'all have a good day and I'll get back to semi-lounging. Anyone wanna hang out? Ping me.
