pseydtonne: Behold the Operator, speaking into a 1930s headset with its large mouthpiece. (bright-blessings)
I was wondering what Boston would do with itself now that the Curse of the Bambino (a registered trademark of MLB Inc) has been broken and our junior senator will remain in the legislative branch of Federal government (pending trademark of the Disney Corporation). I just found out: The owner of an all-business radio station attempted suicide after making a videotape confession to the SEC.

In the tape, he calls himself a psychopath and a monster for siphoning tens of millions from his investment client to create WBIX. I mean, I thought I was obsessed with radio...

Back to me: I went to visit Vitas (my old roomie) at his new apartment in Canton. It's a bigger place but it looks strangely the same as the old place. It allows him to be closer to work now that his job is on the south shore.

He has a modded Xbox. I know the Xbox is just a P3 733MHz on 133 MHz FSB with a 64MB VRAM graphics card and odd BIOS. However, I had no idea you could shove in extra drives after you mod the BIOS. He had a friend do the soldering. Now this box has entire movies on it as well as hundreds of emulations of old video games. I was playing Burger Time for the first time in at least a decade. Later on, we watched old Men Behaving Badly episodes on the Xbox, which means it can be hacked to avoid region issues as well. All this in a $150 box with a $75 chip mod.

Then we met up with [livejournal.com profile] tkitch and [livejournal.com profile] grace_of_gemini and had Mexican food. This was on Route 1 in Norwood, a land known as the Auto Mile. This guy Boch must be worth more than the suicide dude above because there really are a mile of car dealerships on either side of the road and all of them are named Boch (even the Kia dealer). Even though there are tons of salescritters pacing giant lots all day here, there are coyotes at night. We were eating our meal and looking out the window that faced the woods behind the restaurant. We see what looks like a fluffy dog. Then [livejournal.com profile] grace_of_gemini pointed out that was actually a coyote. I knew there were coyotes around Boston (I could hear them howl when I went to my car after work in Malden, as our office was on the Malden River) but I had never seen one.

The coyote left a tidy set of tracks in the snow. About a half-hour later, one of the waiters was drinking and wandering around the woods when he noticed the coyote tracks. I was wondering how gory a silent film this was about to become when he spun around and went back to the restaurant.

I'll leave the news there. That should be enough.
